Burmese Community Fundraiser

May 3, 2021

Engauge is frequently looking for opportunities to help diverse and often overlooked populations. Engauge recently had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser organized in part by our community partners. The fundraiser will provide funding for displaced and struggling families during the CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) in Myanmar. Currently, many families are struggling to find works and are often imprisoned because of the current political climate.

As with any crisis, those in the most vulnerable positions will be impacted the hardest—this includes women and children, those from minority ethnic and religious groups and those facing other socio-economic barriers. Many refugees arrive with no prior English language skills and little-to-no transferable work experience, making it very difficult for them to find a job.

The short-term solution is to raise funds in this project which will go directly to struggling citizens in Myanmar. Engauge donated $500 to the fundraiser held on April 25 in Jackson Park, Milwaukee. This gathering was arranged by local Burmese residents in Milwaukee where they shared food and conversation with the Milwaukee area in an effort to raise funds for the displaced and struggling families in Myanmar. This will provide financial relief to people who require support and access to basic necessities such as food, housing and medical needs.

Many refugees arrive with no prior English language skills and little-to-no transferable work experience, making it very difficult for them to find a job. At Engauge, we embrace diversity and believe workforce diversity can be a key differentiator to build a stable, successful contingent workforce. In addition to breaking down language barriers with in-house translators, Engauge partners with local organizations to help some of the most underserved communities find meaningful employment. One of our key partnerships in 2021 is with the Myanmar community in Milwaukee. This community group connects Engauge with refugees so we can help them build skills and find gainful employment. Engauge was more than happy to participate in a fundraiser to help provide financial relief to our Associates’ families and friends who require support and access to basic necessities!
